19. Can you help if I don’t know which police department responded?

Yes, absolutely — you can still get help even if you have no idea which police department responded. This happens all the time, especially when the scene was chaotic or multiple agencies were present. You’re not expected to sort that out on your own.

Advocates can figure it out by using the basic details you do remember — things like the date, approximate location, nearby landmarks, or whether it happened on a highway or local road. From there, they can narrow down whether it was city police, county sheriff, or state highway patrol. Once the right agency is identified, they track the report for you and let you know as soon as it’s available.
